Painting and Drawing Whether participants choose to work on an individual or class topic, the art classes have produced a creative variety of work this year in a happy and relaxed atmosphere. Landscape has bee a popular topic with various media used. These include: water colour pencils, acrylic paint and chalk pastels. The pastels have been the most popular media for developing portraits. Some have completed studies of the old masters such as Leonardo De Vinci, Rubens and more modern artists such as Modigliani and Matisse. Following the studies, some participants have chosen to work on portraits of family members, grandchildren being a particular favourite. These have delighted the children’s parents when presented as gifts. Students’ comments about why they enjoy the art classes include: ‘Variety of subjects to choose from.’ – Jean ‘At the end of the year, being able to see the improvement you have made.’ – Lesley ‘I like seeing all the different approaches of the other students and the artistic development.’ – Ross ‘The most challenging work for me this year was a pastel portrait of my granddaughter, Brooklyn, which subsequently led me into doing three more as I enjoyed it so much.’ – Gwen Congratulations on a creative year.
