Let’s Do Lunch Let’s Do Lunch is a support group for single mothers. We are funded by ‘Council for Single Mothers and their Children’ and we have a lunch every month with food donated by ‘One Umbrella’. ‘One Umbrella’ is a charity that provides cooked meals and other material assistance to marginalized groups within the community. The idea of the group is to provide an avenue to meet other women in the same situation and to support each other to meet the challenges in our lives. Women who have a positive attitude to separation and single parenthood provide an important role model for women who are going through the emotional difficulties associated with separation. The group also provides a safe space for us to talk about what’s going on in our lives. As well as lunch ‘One Umbrella’ often provides extra items such as linen, luxury goods including expensive chocolates and hand creams - anything that has been donated to them. These extras are distributed to participants and provide a welcome boost to our self-esteem. The group is ongoing and has been increasing in numbers over the year. Although there is no childcare available when we meet children are very welcome. We intend to continue to meet over the next 12 months and look forward to strengthening our relationship with Fawkner Community House. Kerrie Galati, Co-Convenor.
